FareShare South West is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. With warehouses in Plymouth and Bristol, they join the dots between food waste and hunger by redistributing thousands of tonnes of good-quality surplus food every year, to frontline charities, schools and community groups across the South West. Two million tonnes of food wasted across the food industry each year is good-to-eat when it’s discarded. That’s the equivalent of food for 1.3 billion meals. Meanwhile, seven million people (including two million children) in the UK struggle to get enough to eat. At FareShare South West, they turn an environmental problem into a social solution, and in 2021 2041 tonnes of food were saved and redistributed, they provided food for 4,860,844 meals, and they saved their charity partners an estimated £5 million in food costs.
